Oh dear!

Christmas 2010=eating frenzy

I am not surprised (although a little disappointed nevertheless) that despite being a gnats breath away from losing two stones, I've put several pounds on this Christmas. Seven to be precise. It still irks me that it doesn't really take much for all of the old eating habits to creep back in. When I say 'creep' I actually mean 'storm'...its was like I'd been told that this would be the last time I could EVER eat cheese/biscuits/pate/baklava/mince pies/christmas cake/trifle (for breakfast)/celebrations...you get the picture. Not even the indignity of my husband and I comparing ourselves to humpty dumpty and both looking like we were six  months' pregnant and struggling to get off the sofa on Christmas day evening deterred me from getting up the next day and starting all over again.
Of course I'm disappointed because at the end of the day what I stuff in my mouth is entirely down to me-there's no-one else to blame. So what next? Feel guilty and eat more to feel better then feel rubbish again because I've overeaten? No way! We only fail when we stop trying and I AM going to get to target. So I've already dusted myself off. Tomorrow will be the real test. Back to using a food diary and consciously enjoying every mouthful of food whilst staying in control. I might even throw away the leftover mince pies...

Woo-hoo!

I'm officially the lightest I've been for a very long time, having lost 2.5 pounds this week. Did the treat-box help? Well I must admit that after half-filling it with lovely, yummy treats, I did have a few days where all I wanted to do was eat the contents. All of them. I wasn't so sure that I'd had one of my better ideas. My husband was very cynical as he thought it would set me off on an eating binge frenzy. When I eventually got a mental grip I told myself that I'd counted the syns and if I wanted to eat them I could, whenever I wanted to. Once I'd got that control back, I wasn't really that bothered and they weren't on my mind. So I got through the week in control and with no guilt.

I've also been visualising myself losing weight at the scales and making the right food choices, although I did have a couple of weird moments in bed when one minute I'm visualising Kath saying 'you've lost 2 pounds' and the next I'm falling off a pavement...still.

I'm 2.5 pounds off my 2 stone award, but I really do need to stay realistic this week as I have a London trip and a meal out. If I can lose a pound I'll be well chuffed. Any more would be amazing.

Ok so it wasn't the huge loss I'd been anticipating!

In fact it wasnt any loss and I'm underwhelmed by the static position I'm in. Or to put it another way, I stayed the same...

I started the week with fabulous determination, stupendous staying power and an iron will. I got to Saturday and wobbled, then Sunday I fell off the bike and into a bucketful of penny sweets. I had saved some syns but because I had no idea just how many sysns were in each of the little beauties or the big fat mozzarella laden ciabatta bonanza I delighted in, I might perhaps have gone over my limit...a tad.

Sitting in class tonight whilst waiting for my name to be called, and wondering if I should invent an excuse for my lack-lustre performance (I'm bloated, I'm ill, I'm wearing heavy knickers, I have a slow metabolism, I haven't had a poo for several months, the dog ate it...) I had a lightbulb moment. Tracy's treat box!!! So the idea is that I set a syn limit for my treats for the week, (lets say 50) then I fill the treat box with syns up the value i.e.curly wurly=6 syns, fruit pastille =0.5 syns. Then when I want a treat I help myself and when they're gone, they're gone...and I still have syns left as a standby for my longley farm yogurts etc.

In class Sarah talked about visualising success. I must admit that although I'm visualising a bulging box at the moment, when I go to bed, I'm going to close my eyes and see my slimmer self getting my 2 stone award before Christmas. I will do it!!!

Miss Slinky!

I missed class two weeks ago but made it for the 'Miss Slinky' awards last Monday...I'd been nominated and got to dress up in feather boas and parade in front of everyone in class. It was a wee bit embarrasing but great fun and although I didn't win the award it was great to be a part of the action. Some of the other nominees were wearing heels...what did I turn up in? great big fur-lined boots!

And the best bit? I lost 3.5 pounds over the 2 weeks since my birthday and I'm really pushing it to get to my 2 stone award.

I've got a little bet on with a fellow fat buster (ffb) and whoever loses the least weight this week pays for the raffle tickets and coffees. I won last week but my ffb was wearing jeans...

Isn't it strange how some weeks you can feel so motivated and not be tempted at all by goodies and treats but then others you go back to old eating habits at the drop of a hat? Thankfully I'm having a great week and trying to re-motivate myself daily. Watch this space for a fab weight loss come Monday.

Was it worth it?

Last week I had a birthday, stayed with friends, shopped with family, and had a family get-together for Hallow'een.

I did not stuff my face at every opportunity, but I enjoyed afternoon tea at Betty's in York, scoffed a chinese, ate handsomly with friends and indulged a little at the party.

I put on 3.5 pounds...I know its another gain but I rarely have weeks like these and if you can't live a little and enjoy yourself sometimes, where's the point in bothering? And on a positive note, I had 2 good days, 6 good meals out of 21.

'Was it worth it?' you might ask...well yes actually it was!

It could have been much worse!

Oh heck. I put on a pound. Or in the inimitable words of Britney 'oops I did it again'. Spot the trend...lose/gain/lose/gain.

I was poorly and I did lose control a bit, so its not surprising. But here's the thing. What's important is that I went to class, I stayed to class and I got the help I needed. Its what I do next that's crucial.

"Life's too short to wake up with regret. If you're given an opportunity, take it. If it changes you, let it. No-one said it would be easy, but it will be worthwhile".

I've taken that from someone I know. This week isnt going to be easy for me. I have a birthday, I'm meeting a  friend for coffee, shopping with family, eating out, visiting a friend for a couple of days and hosting a  Hallow'een party. It wont be easy, but I have choices.

Yes I'm going to enjoy myself, but there are 21 meals coming up this week and I'm not going to eat cake for every one of them.

Blogging is a great way to eat less!

It's taken me about 4.5 hours to set up and modify this blog...and I've hardly eaten anything! I recommend blogging for weight control!!!

I'm slightly nervous this week

I've taken my eye off the ball for two days. Ok so I havent eaten like a pig, nor have I just thrown caution to the wind. What I have done though is to lose a bit of control 'I'll just have that Sushi'...'those few sweets wont make much of a difference'...'its only a very small tub of Haagen Dasz'...'that extra piece of bread wont break the bank'...You know what I'm talking about! I might not have gone out and eaten fish and chips or a whole cheesecake but added together I've probably eaten nearly the equivalent in those bits and bobs. Time to regain control!
I suppose the trick is to put it behind me, forget about it and move on with a clean sheet for today. What would Sarah say? 'Its what you do next that counts!'
I go to my slimming world class tomorrow night and I do not want to be one of  the people dreading image therapy. Its embarrasing that some of the new members have lost more in 14 weeks than I have in a whole year...

What a brilliant weight loss!

I lost 4 pounds last week...now I was ill so that might have made a difference but still...a loss is a loss!
